As mentioned, I’m planning to execute a series of illustrations towards the Deerfield narrative. Having studied art history in college, I feel that ancient Indian miniature paintings in gouache is very relevant medium and style towards this project. These Indian miniature paintings were intricately painted treasures, haptically interactive, passed from viewer to viewer by hand, translating a mythical story piecemeal.
Y tho?
Perhaps, it is because I am a native of southeastern Louisiana, where culture is complex – yet simple- and weather dramatic – yet static- that directs me to the beauty of narratives precipitating out of landscape. Where I’m from is present in my everyday. Narrative, the faceted space between interacting figures, and whether based in reality, fantasy, mythic, is what I pursue through my illustration and photography.
